A really dope collaboration between Danger Mouse and James Mercer of The Shins, Broken Bells sounds more-or-less exactly how you'd expect. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Filled with light, floaty melodies that belie the eponymous album's gloomy lyrics, Bells mixes Mercer's distinctive voice and subtle guitar strumming with the alien sounds and funky beats DM is known for, creating a new, yet familiar sound that's satisfying, but nothing revolutionary.

Here is a new collective Sweet Thing, a Toronto band that plays infectious pop tunes. Sometimes they get pretty rocking, in that dramatic way that feels best when you clench your fist and raise it to the sky. Charged with dueling guitars, Beach Boys harmonies, and energy up the wazoo, Sweet Thing are the musical equivalent of drinking a milkshake at a 50s diner where the waiter keeps jumping on the table (and you like it). Let's call it 'music to dance like a dork to'.
