An extension of the Academy’s very own Culture Clash series in a city with one of the largest West Indian populations outside the Caribbean. Legendary crews playing on massive soundsystems face off in the city’s first ever cross-genre soundclash, hosted by Toronto’s own Kardinal Offishall. The crews battling for the crowd’s favour at Echo Beach are Afrika Bambaataa’s Zulu Nation, Mad Decent, LuckyMe and Toronto All Stars: Boi-1da, Lissa Monet, & Starting From Scratch. This will be the highlight for the critically acclaimed Manifesto Festival Of Community and Culture taking place in Toronto over a seven-day period.

In retro-vision, the Red Bull ThreeStyle competition for DJs was quite an amazing concept and production. The environment was just as amazing as the DJs who provided the sound. Taking all competitors across the country and placing the top regional champs in the forum for an amazing finale. Photographer David Lang was there every step of the way and he has the photo to prove it at his site. Take a look across the country into an aspiring DJ champs life.

Last week, in our endless endeavours to slang soft goods across the province, we stopped into Echelon, one of our favorite shops in the Southern O. They happened to be hosting a dope little get together featuring The Moustache Men.The collective of Montreal's own New Money, F.U.N.K., and Classi Assi, who are taking the party nationwide, hititng cities big and small with support from WRG, RVCA and Frank151. Check YourSpace to see when they're coming to a drinking hole near you.
And if you are west of the greenbelt looking for that freshness fix, Roll through London's Echelon and see what's hot on Richmond St. They're holding brand new Spring goods from some of our favorites i.e. The Hundreds, Freshjive, Alife, Keep and LRG... peep some of the highlights below, and make sure you pay them a visit when you're in the hood.

Also a phat shout out goes to the fellas from Red Bull who came through with the ass-kickinest DJ mobile in town, Booyah.

If u weren't following the Gman&Rizk twitter on the night of, then you definitely need an update for the amazing show. If you've been in Circa before it's already a surreal atmosphere, then RedBull kicks in that taurine money and now u have crazy lcd displays, a make shift jumbotron, and all the DJs to take you from room to room and level to level. With Curtis Santiago holding down the MC duties the decision came after an electric A-Trak set, to figure which of the 10 DJs would take $2500 and national bragging rights. From an inside source the results were made by the slimmest of margins with the 1-2-3 going down like this: Cosmo(Halifax), Mensa(T.O.), P-Luv(Van). Take in some pics and a video of the Judges getting on the wheels after the competition. Huge event, definitely want to see it next year.

Seven & I hit up the Toronto regional of the Red Bull 3Style competition @ The Mod Club last month. As two DJ heads with influences from this lifestyle we both agreed that this isn't an easy competition to win for any DJ. With honourable mentions to DJ Tasc, DJ Mensa was crowned and caked off. So here's the line-up for the National Comp. next Friday the 13th @ Circa. Vancouver: P LUV | Calgary: DJ BRYX | Winnipeg: FIN-S | Kitchener: DJ MAKEM | Toronto: DJ MENSA | Ottawa: KID SL.

Check out their mixes @Exclaim and vote your brains out!

On Friday March 13th 2009 these finalists will compete for top spot and join A-Trak, Neil Armstrong, Skratch Bastid, Team Canada, Mat The Alien and Jokers Of The Scene in an explosive evening at CiRCA Nightclub (Toronto). Haaannnnhhh!!!
